The Town of Barnstable
(The Seven Villages)
The Town of Barnstable is located within Barnstable County. Barnstable County includes all of Cape Cod, from the Bourne Bridge to Provincetown. The Islands, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket, are separate counties - Dukes and Nantucket Counties respectively. Within the Town of Barnstable, there are seven villages: Barnstable, West Barnstable, Centerville, Hyannis, Osterville, Cotuit and Marstons Mills. One of the nicest aspects of the Town of Barnstable is that it runs across the entire Cape, from north to south. This affords town residents access to northside beaches, such as Sandy Neck, with its acres of trails, sand dunes, and cool water. There is also access to the popular southside beaches such as Craigville Beach, Kalmus Beach, and Dowses Beach with their warm summer water temperature (70+F) perfect for swimming, sailing, windsurfing and power boating. Any person who owns property within the Town of Barnstable can purchase a resident beach sticker for a nominal fee which affords them access to all the town beaches, both salt and freshwater.
